Agatonia School Publishing House wished to publish a monographic study on the traditional pottery craft of the Piscu village. We were asked to design a book inspired by this craft. www.edupatrimoniu.piscu.ro/carti-patrimoniu/.
We considered important to underline the pottery craft as the main feature of this village in all its aspects. That is why we used different qualities of surfaces (varnished, mat, embossed) to suggest specific techniques of ceramics. Thus, the cover has a varnished area suggesting the glaze – a subtle detail seen only when the jacket is pulled out of the book. The title is treated in the same manner: the highlighted letters look like they are glazed on the pottery surface. On the inside of the book, the monography is a linear story which is underlined by an upper frieze consisting of both the architect students drawings and the photos taken with many fences of village houses. We chose to work with Ludwig from www.typeby.com for its subtle details that suggests craft, from which we used different weights of the big family typeface.
